Waihe'e Ridge Trail | Best Hikes In Maui

Waihee Ridge Trail is without doubt one of the best hikes in Maui. This hike is going to take your breath away, whether from the incredible views or the steep climb. The hike is only four miles, but it's a tough two miles up with 1,610 feet in elevation gain. You've got to work for this one, but it is definitely worth it.

The hike dips into beautiful forests in a couple sections. The first stretch of the Waihee Ridge Trail goes through woods with towering pines before giving way to eucalyptus trees and vibrant green underbrush. The forested sections alone make this a beautiful hike, and they're only a tiny part of what the hike offers.

Above is the view from the top of the trail. This view is just spectacular and pans out in every direction. You can see into the mountains and have 180 degree views of the ocean and down into Kahului. At the top of the trail is a nice viewing platform with a picnic table, a great place to rest after the climb up.

The trail is well maintained and very easy to follow. Since it is so magnificent, the trail does stay relatively busy. We suggest hitting the trail in the morning, some time between 7-8am. If you come early, you can usually find a good parking spot and won't run into too many people on the way up. It's also a bit cooler in the mornings, which can make a difference as this trail is mostly in the sun.

Parking can be a challenge at this trail. There is a lot at the trail head with has a lot of spots, but even those fill up quickly. If you can't find a spot at the top, there is a large gravel lot with tons of parking. However, it's a steep roughly mile walk up to the trail head if you park at the lower lot. It may be worth waiting at the top for a spot unless you're really looking for an extra challenge.

If you enjoy hiking, you absolutely need to add Waihe'e Ridge Trail to your list of things to do in Maui! Hope you enjoy this hike!
