3 Ways to Help Our Maui Community During COVID-19

It’s time to give back to our Maui community, especially during these difficult times as we endure a crisis unlike any other. With that being said, we’re in this together and we’re here for you. Here are three simple ways to help our Maui community during COVID-19.

Donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to our Healthcare Workers

Given the current PPE shortages in hospitals across the country, the Maui Health Foundation is now coordinating donation drop-offs to ensure the safety and health of our valued healthcare workers. Accepted donations include N95 masks, surgical masks and non-latex gloves. With their new PPE protocol in effect, they are also accepting homemade masks for their caregivers to use where appropriate.

Our healthcare workers at Maui Health have been tirelessly working the frontlines to ensure the health and safety of our community members. We are so grateful for their care and hard work!

If you would like to donate any of the listed items to the Maui Health Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund, visit mauihealth.org/covidrelief or call 808.442.5191.

Shop Maui Food Bank's Virtual Food Drive

Maui Food Bank has been giving back to those in need for over 20 years, but they need our help now more than ever. As more families find themselves in financial hardship during this time, Maui Food Bank will be supporting them with access to food through their various food distribution programs.

Due to high demand, Maui Food Bank is in need of food donations from our Maui community members. Their Virtual Food Drive makes shopping for food and donating online easily accessible right from your home. According to Maui Food Bank, “The products in the Virtual Food Drive are intended to be representative of the types of products that will be purchased with your gift.”

Offer Volunteer Work through Facebook’s Community Help Feature

Facebook’s Community Help feature is expanding during the COVID-19 pandemic, making it easier for users to offer or request help in areas within close proximity to you. You can offer volunteer work such as shopping for groceries, delivering food or donating supplies.

It is important to note that those who are considering offering help via Facebook’s new feature must be sure to follow the advice of health authorities like the World Health Organization or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most importantly, practice self-isolation and other health precautions if you or anyone you’ve been in contact with has had flu-like symptoms. Although it is great to help out your fellow community members, be aware of the possible risk of passing on the virus to those who can be more susceptible to COVID-19.

You can access Facebook’s Community Help feature at the top of your Facebook News Feed or by going to the section directly
